SVELAV PRO 1

This four-day course provides basic avalanche training for outdoor work in mountain environments. The PRO1 focuses on identifying avalanche terrain and managing avalanche risk from a workplace perspective. The curriculum includes both theoretical sessions and practical outdoor activities, and a final exam on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Topics include:
- Avalanche and weather forecasts
- Basic snowpack observations
- Snow stability assessments
- Search and rescue
- Reporting avalanche occurrences and accidents
My PRO 1 courses are generally limited to four participants to allow for some tailoring to participants’ backgrounds and work environments.
To participate, attendees must have completed at least three days of first aid training, including CPR and treatment for hypothermia. Solid off-piste skiing skills are recommended, and participants should already be familiar with transceiver search techniques prior to course start.
Note that I also offer this course in ︎combination with a Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course that fulfills the Pro 1 prerequisites. Primarily, I run the courses in Åre and Riksgränsen (Sweden), as well as Skjervøy (Norway). Courses in the Trondheim area and Narvik can be arranged upon request.
